Paneda, a leading innovator in DAB+ digital radio solutions, has successfully completed the installation of a DAB radio system with an integrated break-in emergency system in February 2025 in the newly opened Tanem Tunnel on Fv. 704. This initiative is part of the broader Miljøpakken project, aimed at enhancing traffic safety, reducing environmental impact, and modernizing transportation infrastructure in the Trondheim region.
A Safer and More Efficient Roadway
The Tanem Tunnel, spanning 963 meters, plays a critical role in the recently completed 4.5-kilometer road project between Tanem and Tulluan. This newly constructed route offers a safer and more sustainable alternative to the old Brøttemsvegen road. Key benefits include:
- Enhanced Safety – The new route significantly reduces accident risks by improving road conditions and implementing state-of-the-art DAB+ break-in emergency systems. In the event of an incident, emergency messages can be broadcast instantly via DAB radio, ensuring swift communication with drivers.
- Environmental Improvements – The project diverts heavy vehicle traffic away from residential areas, reducing noise and air pollution around schools, kindergartens, and local communities.
- Economic and Tourism Growth – The upgraded infrastructure enhances access to key business districts, fostering economic development and job creation. Additionally, the improved connectivity to Vassfjellet ski resort supports regional tourism and outdoor recreation.
DAB+ in Tunnel Safety: A Critical Upgrade
The integration of DAB+ digital radio with a break-in emergency system ensures that all drivers remain connected and informed while inside the tunnel. Unlike traditional FM signals, DAB+ provides superior coverage, clearer sound quality, and the ability to deliver critical safety alerts in real-time. This system is now a vital component of Norway’s advanced road safety measures.
Paneda is proud to contribute to Norway’s smart infrastructure by deploying next-generation DAB+ technology, ensuring safer and more efficient road networks.
